What is it?
New employee health screening looks at all new employees to ensure that they are fit for the job they are being recruited for and that the job will not have any affect on their health.
This can be done in a number of ways, depending on the role the person is being recruited for. Typically, it is done by a medical questionnaire, however it can also involve a medical for which an appointment is made for the prospective employee to come and see us in person.
Why do I need it?
New employee health screening can assist you to ensure you are recruiting people fit for their role and that the job will not have any affect on their health. This will save you on repeat recruitment costs - which on average are £3,950 a vacancy per employee - as you will have filled the role initially with someone who is capable and fit to do that job.
Peace of mind…
Not only will you save money, but you will also have the security that you have recruited someone who will be able to provide a regular and efficient service.
Early detection of medical issues…
By identifying the previous sickness absence you will be able to flag up any potential issues early on and if a higher than average sickness absence rate is highlighted, we can advise you on the likelihood of reoccurrence so that you are able to make an informed decision as to whether to continue with the offer of employment. This minimises the risk of losing a potentially high quality employee due to a minor medical problem.
You will also be ensuring your compliance to any legal requirements regarding recruitment, for example the Disability and Discrimination Act 1995, which will protect you from the possibility of litigation.
How does it work?
In most cases, the prospective employee fills in a questionnaire which they receive directly from Healthier Business and return it directly to us. They also have the option of completing this questionnaire online. The questionnaire covers aspects including:
This is then logged and screened by one of our Degree or Diploma Occupational Health Nurses on the day of receipt and once fitness has been assessed, a formal certificate is sent to you within 48 hours.
In some cases, the nurse may have to contact the prospective employee if the questionnaire has not been completed properly and further information or clarity is required. This can result in a delay to the formal certificate being sent to you; however if this is the case we let you know immediately.
The final recruitment decision always lies with the client: no prospective employee will be rejected or accepted for employment directly by Healthier Business UK Ltd.
